About Greg Haynes

I’ve lived in Australia, South Africa and Britain. Three countries. Three very different worlds. One life full of people, places, challenges, mistakes, adventures and memories that became stories.

Memories Are Made of This is my first book. It’s a collection of 51 true stories drawn from six decades of a life that has taken some unexpected turns.

A life of stories across three continents

My journey: Australia ➜ South Africa ➜ Britain

Sunset over Uluru, a large sandstone monolith, in the Australian desert with a clear sky and a visible moon.

AUSTRALIA

Where it began

I was born in Australia in the 1960s. A sun-soaked childhood full of beaches, backyard cricket, school friends and the kind of freedom every kid remembers. It shaped who I am today.

Rocky coastline with green hills in the background and the ocean in the foreground.

SOUTH AFRICA

Where I grew up

At the age of eight, my family moved to South Africa. That’s where I grew up, went to school, discovered music, technology and hockey, and began to see how the world really works. It was a country that gave me so much.

A scenic view of a hillside village with classic stone houses and thatched roofs, surrounded by lush green trees and flowering plants, with rolling green hills and fields in the distance under a clear sky.

BRITAIN

Where I call home

In 2001, I moved to Britain. I built a new life, a career, a home and a family of friends.

Britain is where I write, create and keep adding new chapters.

More about Greg

I’ve worked in leadership, technology and sustainability. I’m passionate about stories, history, music, nature and the small moments that often stay with us the longest.

When I’m not writing, you’ll usually find me:
